Magia Gaitera - A new Traditional Sound
Magia Gaitera represents my current compositional focus: a project dedicated to the projection of Gaita music into new creative territories. My aim is to write a new repertoire for the traditional Gaita Larga ensemble that, beyond the common Cumbia, Gaita, and Puya rhythms, features the Fandango (6/8) alongside diverse rhythms from the Magdalena River region that have historically existed outside the traditional Gaita repertoire. Additionally, this project will document the Fandango-largo (9/8), a rhythm I developed and for which I have composed a specific series of works.
This work is inspired by the campesino masters who originated and developed this sound. I offer this repertoire as a humble attempt to expand our musical tradition, introducing structural innovations while honoring our ancestral roots. By bridging this legacy with a contemporary vision and utilizing the traditional ensemble format, I seek to ensure the continued evolution and vitality of this invaluable cultural form.

Magia Gaitera, es un proyecto dedicado a la proyección de la música de Gaita hacia nuevos territorios creativos. Mi objetivo es escribir un nuevo repertorio para el conjunto tradicional de Gaita Larga que, más allá de los ritmos comunes de Cumbia, Gaita y Puya/Merengue, integre el Fandango (6/8) y ritmos de la región del Río Magdalena. Adicionalmente, este proyecto documentará el Fandango-largo (9/8), un ritmo de mi autoría para el cual he compuesto una serie de obras.
Este trabajo está inspirado en los maestros campesinos que originaron y desarrollaron sonido gaitero. Este repertorio es una humilde ofrenda con la cual quiero aportar a nuestra tradición musical y su vez honrar el gran legado de la cultura Gaitera. Utilizando el formato Gaita Larga (tres tambores, dos flautas, maraca y voces) como laboratorio creativo, busco participar en la evolución constante y la vitalidad de esta bella cultura y su gente.
